Golf tights layered under a pleated golf skirt for cold weather

Every fall, the same quiet wardrobe surrender happens on American courses: the temperature drops below 60, and the golf skirt goes into storage until May. Watch a fall round in Korea and you will see something different — skirts everywhere, on mornings cold enough to see your breath. The difference is not tolerance for cold. It is one garment American golf has mostly overlooked: golf tights.

Golf tights

Why do golfers wear tights under a skirt?

Because the combination solves a problem pants cannot. A golf swing generates heat — by the third hole you are warmer than you were on the first tee, and by the turn a cold morning has usually become a mild afternoon. Pants commit you to one temperature for the whole round. A skirt over tights is a system: the tights hold a layer of warmth against your legs, the skirt adds core coverage where it matters, and the outfit breathes in a way a fleece-lined pant never will. You start the round warm and finish it comfortable, without a wardrobe change in the parking lot.

There is a swing argument too. Tights move with zero resistance — no fabric bunching behind the knee, no waistband shifting through rotation. Golfers who switch report the same thing about a skirt-over-tights round: nothing pulls, nothing binds.

What does denier mean, and which number do you need?

Denier — the number followed by "D" on every pair — measures the thickness of the yarn. It is the single most useful number on the package, and it maps directly to temperature:

15D is a sun layer, not a warmth layer. Sheer, light, built for UV protection on bright shoulder-season days. Korean golfers wear low-denier styles straight through summer for sun coverage — it is a staple of the Korean course wardrobe.

Golf tights 30D

30D is the fall workhorse. Semi-opaque, warm enough for mornings in the 50s, and the most versatile choice if you own one pair. Golf-specific 30D styles add details street tights skip: breathable control tops that stay put through a swing, and non-slip soles that keep your foot planted inside the shoe.

40D and up is late-fall territory. Opaque, warmer, and the point where the tights read as a deliberate part of the outfit rather than a sheer layer.

Golf tights - Bottom Opened

One golf-specific design worth knowing: bottom-opening tights, which leave the sole open so the tights disappear into any shoe without adding a layer under your foot. It is the kind of detail that only exists because Korean brands engineered tights for golf specifically, rather than borrowing them from the hosiery aisle.

Does the combination actually keep you warm?

Warmer than bare legs by a wide margin, and — within the fall range — comparable to pants, because warmth on the course is mostly about two zones: your core and your joints. The skirt doubles the fabric over your hips and upper legs exactly where wind hits, and the tights keep a consistent layer over your knees, which pants only manage when they fit closely. Below roughly 40 degrees, most golfers will want to move to pants or add a base layer. Between 45 and 65 — which is most of fall golf — the skirt-and-tights system covers the whole window.

Many of the skirts in our range make the combination easier than it sounds: built-in inner shorts mean the tights layer under a secure base, so nothing shifts through eighteen holes. That is the difference you feel browsing our women's golf skirts — pleated, A-line, and wrap styles that were designed in a country where wearing them in October was always the assumption.

How do Korean golfers style it?

The styling logic is contrast and proportion. Black or charcoal tights are the default because they ground any skirt color and read as intentional at even conservative clubs — pair them with a knit vest and collared long sleeve and the outfit is fall-complete. Tone-on-tone (dark tights, dark skirt) lengthens the leg line and photographs cleanly. And in classic Korean course style, the tights become the quiet base that lets a statement skirt — a bold pleat, a pattern, a color — stay the centerpiece even as the weather turns.

Dress codes, for the record, are almost never an issue: tights under a regulation-length skirt satisfy the same requirements the skirt met alone, and many clubs see the combination as dressier than joggers.

The part American golf is still catching up on

Golf tights barely exist as a category in most American pro shops, which is why golfers searching for them keep landing on Korean brands. The engineering — UV-blocking knits, control tops built for rotation, non-slip and open-sole constructions — came out of a golf culture where women never accepted that cold weather should change what they wear.
